The Boost Programme

Branding an immersive, interactive and inclusive self-leadership programme for young people.

THE CLIENT

The Boost programme is an outreach, county-wide collaborative project, commissioned by Gloucestershire Constabulary.

THE CHALLENGE

The Boost programme is grounded in how we interact with each other on a very human level, focussing on self-respect and respect for each other, no matter what your background or circumstances. At the heart of the programme’s concept is care, inclusivity, flexibility and a commitment to reducing community harm. It builds on the Constabulary’s own Supportive Leadership and Wellbeing programme.

Our creative challenge was to take what was presented as high-level behavioral research and theoretical principles and visually package it in a way that “speaks” to a younger, visually intelligent audience. The programme needed to be a fun, immersive experience and feel like a ‘hi-jack of daily school life’. It needed to engage both year seven pupils, who are just setting out on their journey, as well as sixth form participants who would be largely delivering the programme.

THE SOLUTION

A flexible, transformational self-leadership and empowerment programme that equips young people with the essential life skills they need to deal with challenges now and in the future. Designed to be noticed.

The boost brand needed to have visual impact onsite – it needed to feel like The Boost team had landed.

The core identity is playful and confident. The elevated ‘o’ with its stylised, halftone drop shadow, is designed to express the positive boost received by the programme and is designed to be brought to life and animated. Our audience doesn’t sit still so why should the logo!

The headline font is designed to be seen – expressive and full of personality, it brings the fun-factor, supported by more legible secondary font.

The circular shape and halftone pattern from the logo is then utilised across a variety of communications to highlight, crop and hero imagery of participants.

Finally, a neat set of icons was designed to help brand and bring to life each activity within the programme. This was designed specifically for the younger audience.

The key focus of this project was to deliver a brand that can have the dial turned up or down, depending on the audience. There will be times when we need to speak to stakeholders and headteachers; we need to get the information across in a concise way, appearing considered and an extension of the Constabulary brand. Then there are times when we very much want to be distanced from the authoritative styling of schools and local authorities. We needed to speak directly to young people. It needed to feel like a fun activity camp or clothing brand.
